Check first
Check these three things first
- Milliseconds written with a dot (00:00:01.000) instead of a comma; some importers only accept commas.
- No blank line between cues, so the whole file is read as one subtitle.
- The file is not UTF-8, so every non-ASCII character breaks or the import is refused.
How to fix
How to fix it
Drop the file into Subtitle Format Repair: it rebuilds each cue boundary, rewrites standard timestamps and lists what it changed. The dialogue itself is never touched.

Frequently asked questions
Do I have to retype the subtitles because of a failed import?
Almost never. Nine times out of ten it is structure or encoding; one repair pass makes the file import again. You only need to retype when text was already missing.
CapCut only imports the first line. Why?
That is nearly always a missing blank line between cues, or repeated cue numbers. One repair pass splits the blocks again.
