About this tool
What Word Counter does
Count words, characters, sentences, paragraphs and reading time as you type. Everything is measured in this tab, so drafts, scripts and private notes never leave your browser.
- Counts that update as you typeThere is no button to press: every metric recalculates on each keystroke, so you can watch a sentence drop under a limit instead of counting manually.
- Chinese, Japanese and Korean are counted per characterSplitting only on spaces would report one word for a whole CJK sentence. Those characters are counted individually while Latin words are still counted as words.
- Reading time, not only word countA 200 words per minute estimate is shown alongside the totals, which is the number that actually decides whether a script is too long.
- One click to copy the summaryAll seven metrics can be copied as plain lines, so they can be pasted into a brief, a ticket or a client message.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Is this word counter free?
Yes. It is free, needs no account, and runs entirely in your browser.
Are my texts uploaded?
No. Counting happens on the text already in the page; no request is sent while you type.
How are Chinese and Japanese counted?
Each character counts as one word, because those languages are not written with spaces. Latin words are counted by whitespace.
Why do two tools report different word counts?
They disagree about punctuation, hyphenated words and CJK text. This tool counts CJK characters individually and only counts tokens containing letters or digits.
What is the reading time based on?
200 words per minute, rounded to one decimal place. It is an estimate for silent reading, not for speaking aloud.
